Point Pleasant man arrested after lighting house on fire with sister inside

POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. — A man is in jail after attempted arson and murder situation from the weekend.

Jason Ray Blankenship, 42, of Point Pleasant, was arrested after he allegedly physically assaulted his sister, Terri Lynn Vanhoose, on two separate occasions.

On Saturday, police responded to a house on Cherry Drive in Point Pleasant where Blankenship allegedly lit the residence on fire while Vanhoose was still inside. Vanhoose exited the house with no injures and Blankenship fled the scene.

After obtaining warrants, police apprehended Blankenship without further incident. Blankenship is charged with is charged with Attempted Murder, Malicious Assault and First Degree Arson.

Blankenship is currently held at the Western Regional Jail and is awaiting arraignment by a Mason County Magistrate.
