Optimum gives update on maintenance to main fiber line after Friday vandalism

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Optimum has said that it expects all customers to see complete restoration this evening after internet service was interrupted this morning.

The internet service being impacted reportedly stemmed from vandalism to a main Optimum fiber line near Charleston Friday morning, affecting eight school systems and the state Department of Education.

The fiber break made Friday’s first day of school for Kanawha County Schools a bit harder, as schools were unable to access applications and websites needed throughout the day.

Optimum has said that all affected schools are now back online. Service to Kanawha County Schools was said to have come back at 11:30.
