California man convicted of multiple child sex crimes against two West Virginia minors

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A California man has been convicted of multiple sexual crimes after persuading a West Virginia minor to send sexually explicit images.

Alex Kai Tick Chin, 39, of San Francisco, California, was convicted by a federal jury Friday for the production of child pornography, enticement of a minor, and committing a sex crime against a minor while a registered sex offender.

The trial brought evidence forth that proved Chin persuaded and enticed a minor female in southern West Virginia to send sexually explicit images to him via Snapchat. Chin coerced the minor into sending the images by complimenting her and saying the two were involved in a relationship, but then made threats to harm himself when the minor did not send him sexually explicit images.

Chin also communicated and exchanged sexually explicit images to a second minor female in southern West Virginia during the same time frame. Chin used the same tactics on both minor females, threatening to harm himself if images were not sent.

Chin communicated and sent and received sexually explicit images to the minor females from December 2020 through February 2021 while he was already a registered sex offender in the state of California. Chin had a previous felony conviction of child pornography from 2017.

Chin kept in contact with both females until March 2022, when he drove from California to the southern part of West Virginia in a white panel van. Chin tried to meet both of the minor females in West Virginia without success.

Chin faces a minimum of 35 years in prison and could spend up to life behind bars. He will be sentenced on December 9.
