GLENVILLE, W.Va. Glenville State University held a ribbon cutting Wednesday, to celebrate the opening of their new College of Health Sciences facility.
This new lab, located in the Waco Center, is an expansion of the nursing program. It will help highlight GSU’s continued commitment to meeting the needs of health care workers in West Virginia and throughout the nation.
President of Glenville Mark Manchin said that it will be a nursing lab that will provide new technology to the nursing students.
“Today we cut the ribbon on a new nursing lab, about 8500 square feet at the Waco Center, that will be providing state of the art equipment, state of the art facilities, some of the nicest facilities you’re gonna see in West Virginia that will help prepare our young men and women,” Manchin said.
Since this expansion will allow for new technologies and facilities, Manchin said that these are what’s going to help the students become successful.
“In order to be successful, clearly you have to have great facilities and great instructions,” Manchin said. “And I think today we cut the ribbon on a big step in that directions and we have great instruction working with Marshall.”
Not only have they partnered with Marshall, but also, they have West Virgina Medicine inside the Waco Center and Manchin said that this will help students.
“So we can work very closely with WVU Medicine, they sent dogs down, they have a different way of interacting with our students,” Manchin said.
The new expansion isn’t just exciting for the university but also for the students Manchin said.
“It’s just a great day, it’s a great day for Glenville State University but as I’ve told them today, more importantly it’s a great day for these young men and women who have the opportunity to get a good quality education and go on and be successful in life,” Manchin said. “I know that’s what every mother and father care about when they send their child to Glenville, and we take that very seriously.”
This new addition for the nursing program is just one small phase, that will help continue expanding the College of Health Sciences at GSU.
Students are expected to start having classes and labs in the new facilities starting in the Spring semester.
