PUTNAM COUNTY, W.Va.— Poll workers in Putnam County have been busy as people who didn’t vote early came out to vote Tuesday.
Putnam County Clerk Brian Wood said that he was afraid that the turnout wouldn’t be high because of early voting.
“They’re pretty busy, I’m excited about the numbers, at first we had a pretty heavy early voting turnout, then it kind of stilled, but we beat our record,” Wood said. “But my thoughts were that things we’re going to die down on election day because people were voting early.”
With early voting, the county had 12,208 voters, which beat their previous record by 1,400. Wood is hoping that the county can surpass the 28,000 voters they had in the 2020 general election.
Wood also said that they haven’t run into any problems, other than a voter not clicking directly on the box which caused the machine to not pick up their answers.
“Overall, smooth sailing, every election you know, you’re going to have question or something like that, you never know what will come up, but you take it in stride, but overall, everything’s very smooth,” Wood said.
