Officials welcome Shark Tank’s Prime 6 development to West Virginia

State and local officials celebrated the groundbreaking of a new economic development project associated with a popular television program.

Gov. Jim Justice

Prime 6, which has been featured on television’s “Shark Tank” and its focus on entrepreneurs, is establishing a manufacturing center in Fairmont.

“This investment is a shining example of West Virginia’s growing and strengthening economy, and how our state has caught the attention of the world,” Gov. Jim Justice said.

“Companies from across the globe are seeing the incredible opportunities here and choosing to put down roots in the Mountain State. I couldn’t be happier to welcome Prime 6 and Kevin O’Leary to Fairmont and celebrate this exciting milestone with them.”

Shelley Moore Capito

Senator Shelley Moore Capito, R-W.Va., told the Prime 6 developers that “if community is what you want and people who love and care about one another are the most important thing for you, you’ve come to the right place — hard-working, dedicated, patriotic, people who believe in this country but also believe in the value of hard work.”

Prime 6 produces high-performing charcoal and wood logs.

Riki Franco

“Today we celebrate a significant milestone,” said Riki Franco, founder and chief executive at Prime 6.

“We chose Fairmont because we believe in the power of local community. We are excited to work hand in hand with the talented and hardworking people of this region, creating new jobs, supporting the local economy and establishing Fairmont as a hub for innovation.”

The business was originally announced for Buckhannon, but it was ultimately deemed infeasible because of environmental challenges that would have required extensive and costly remediation, delaying progress significantly.

This week, Governor Justice said the facility would be in Fairmont instead.

“This is a sign of the great things to come in Fairmont. We at the City are still pushing forward with our plans of recreational development and opportunities, but the arrival of a manufacturing facility in our backyard will diversify our opportunities,” City Manager Travis Blosser said.

Special guest Kevin O’Leary, entrepreneur and investor from Shark Tank, was in attendance. The Shark Tank film crew was in attendance today to capture this celebration.

The $35 million investment is expected to create 75 jobs in the region. Prime 6’s new facility is set to begin operations in the coming months.

O’Leary and Prime 6 leadership were set to host an event this evening at the Marion County National Guard Armory to discuss the company’s mission, provide networking opportunities, and accept on-site job applications.

“Prime 6 is thrilled to bring new job opportunities to Fairmont while advancing our mission to create sustainable solid fuel solutions,” said Oron Franco, COO of Prime 6. “Our new facility is a testament to our commitment to innovative, environmentally conscious manufacturing and community partnership.”
