MAIDSVILLE, W.Va. — The Public Service Commission has granted a pair of extensions to two Longview Power subsidiaries to start and complete construction of a combined-cycle gas-fired power plant and solar array on the grounds of the existing site of the Longview coal-fired plant.
Mountain State Clean Energy and Mountain State Renewables were given an extension to begin construction until April 3, 2029, and complete the project by April 3, 2034. The request for extension was filed on Oct. 9.
The PSC granted the citing certificate to Longview Power in April 2020 to build a 1,200-megawatt combined-cycle gas-fired facility that uses waste heat to produce steam that generates additional electricity via a steam turbine.
A 70-megawatt, 20-megawatt on the Longview site and 50 megawatts in Pennsylvania were to be under construction this year and completed by next April.
The company has cited supply chain issues, volatile energy prices and inflation as the reasons for the delay.
