CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The University of Charleston has announced it will no longer admit new students for its pharmacy program.
The university made the decision to drop its accredited Doctor of Pharmacy program after nearly two decades of operation, citing a decline in student interest.

UC President Marty Roth, in a statement, said it was a tough cut to make.
“This is a very difficult and emotional decision for UC,” Roth said. “Our dedicated faculty and staff have been preparing pharmacists for successful careers for close to 20 years. While pharmacists remain critical for effective healthcare, market conditions have led to a decline in student interest.”
Roth also went on to say that pharmacy school enrollments nationwide have fallen since 2016, and UC has been no different.
UC pharmacy students graduating in 2025 and 2026 will be able to finish their schooling, but the university has now shut down any future students enrolling in the pharmacy program. Students entering their third pharmacy year and second pharmacy year may enroll at the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy.
UC says it will work individually with students transitioning to WVU.
