HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall has discovered all of its opponents for the 2025 football season.
The Thundering Herd will play host to Texas State and travel to Louisiana in Sun Belt Conference cross-divisional action next season.
“It’s exciting to learn those opponents and know who we will face in the 2025 season,” MU head coach Tony Gibson said. “We know that Texas State and Louisiana were two of the best in the SBC West last season, so it will be a challenge, but that only adds to the excitement. With all our opponents known, we are one step closer to our first season in Huntington!”
Texas State is fresh off an 8-5 season that included a 5-3 record in Sun Belt play. The Bobcats wrapped up the campaign with a two-point win over North Texas in the First Responder Bowl.
Louisiana finished 10-4 in 2024 and dropped its last two games. The Ragin’ Cajuns were defeated by Marshall 31-3 in the Sun Belt title game and then lost to TCU in the New Mexico Bowl, 34-3. Excluding the loss to the Herd in the league title game, Louisiana won seven of eight Sun Belt matchups.
The Herd’s non-conference schedule has long been known and Marshall will open the season on August 30 ‘Between the Hedges’ with a game at Georgia. Marshall will then host two FCS opponents — Missouri State on September 6 and Eastern Kentucky on September 13. Marshall wraps up non-conference action on September 20 at Middle Tennessee.
Marshall’s home Sun Belt Conference games are against James Madison, Old Dominion, Georgia Southern and Texas State. The Herd’s league road games are at Appalachian State, Georgia State, Coastal Carolina and Louisiana.
Dates and times for all games will be announced in the spring after television tie-ins are determined.
