MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Entering the final weekend of the regular season, the WVU women’s basketball team needed a pair of results to go in their favor to earn a double bye into the quarterfinal round of the Big 12 Conference Tournament.

Big 12 Women’s Tournament bracket
West Virginia (23-6, 13-5 Big 12) did their part on Saturday with an 85-69 win at Cincinnati. On Sunday, Iowa State’s 85-63 win over Kansas State allowed the Mountaineers to jump ahead of the Wildcats in the final standings.
The top eight teams receive a single bye while the top four are automatically placed in the quarterfinals. West Virginia is the No. 4 seed and they will play their first game Friday at noon at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City. The Mountaineers will face No.5 Kansas State, No. 12 BYU or No. 13 UCF. BYU meets UCF in Wednesday’s opening round. The winner advances to meet K-State Thursday.
West Virginia finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the final league standings with KSU and Utah. By virtue of their regular season wins over the Wildcats and the Utes, WVU won the tiebreaker over those two teams.
TCU secured the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament and the regular season title with a 51-48 win over Baylor in the final game on the league schedule.
