Justice and Capito put votes in to keep government open

CHARLESTON, W.Va. –U.S. Senators Jim Justice and Shelley Moore Capito have voted to keep the federal government open.

With federal funding set to run out after midnight on Saturday, the U.S. House of Representatives passed a continuing resolution funding the government through the end of September.

The U.S. Senate needs a cloture vote of 60 members to advance the funding resolution to a passage vote.

Capito, who sits on the Senate Appropriations Committee, has been very critical of Senator Chuck Schumer and other Democratic leaders, blaming them for the last minute scramble, which she said was “entirely avoidable.”

In a statement, Capito said she’s ready to prevent similar scenarios in the future.

“I am hopeful that under our new Republican majority in both the Senate and House and working with President Trump, we can prevent these avoidable scenarios and provide more predictability for the American people.”
