CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The National Weather Service is preparing West Virginians for a damaging thunderstorm this evening.
According to the NWS map, parts Calhoun, Nicholas, Gilmer, Lewis, Braxton, Uphsur, Webster, and Clay counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until around 7:30.
The Charleston area received a tornado warning at around 5:30, which was in effect until 6.
44 of the 55 counties were part of a severe thunderstorm watch that was issued early Monday evening. That will last until 11 p.m.
The announcement says that the storm could bring winds of up to 60 mph, and large sizes of hail.
