CHARLESTON, W.Va. –U.S. Senator Jim Justice says that he stands behind President Donald Trump’s efforts in trying to right side government.
“There’s no question there’s some fraud, there’s no question that there’s some abuse, get rid of it, for crying out loud we need to clean that part up for sure,” Justice said during his appearance on MetroNews Midday Wednesday afternoon.
Potential federal budget cuts could affect, Medicaid and CHIP (Children’s Health Insurance Program) which accounts for 28% of West Virginia residents.
Justice says that he doesn’t think the cuts will bring any harm.
“At the end of the day, I don’t think we’re going to fall into a position of hurting our seniors or kids,” he said.
Another thing that Justice talked about were the federal job cuts that everyone’s been seeing. Most recently, NIOSH, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, in Morgantown saw over 400 job cuts. These cuts were mainly tied to the safety of coal miners.
Justice said that during this time of trying to make sure that fraud and abuse is gone, sometimes you’re going to have mix-ups.
“On a national basis, you know we’re going to mow too close to the fence and then we’re going to have to make adjustments,” he said.
He says the only thing we can do is continue moving forward to see if what is going on with cuts is working.
“But if we go forward, let’s just breath and give it a little time to see if all this stuff starts working,” Justice said.
