Marshall roundup: Herd men’s hoops squad adds pair of junior college teammates

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall’s search for additions to its roster has produced two additional players set to come to Huntington from the same junior college.

Caleb Hollenbeck, a 6-foot-4 junior guard, and 6-8 junior forward Andrew Fuquay both announced commitments to the Herd through social media. The duo previously played together at Gillette College in Wyoming.

Hollenbeck hails from Rapid City, South Dakota and Fuquay is from Detroit, Michigan.

Hollenbeck and Fuquay were part of a Pronghorns team that was 29-4 in the 2024-25 season, including 10-2 in the National Junior College Athletic Association 9th Region.

Hollenbeck could help to fill a void left behind from point guard Dezayne Mingo’s departure, while Fuquay is an addition to a front court in need of several having lost Obinna Anochili-Killen and Nate Martin.

Hollenbeck is a threat as an outside shooter and was his team’s second-leading scorer at 16.1 points per game last season. He made better than 52 percent of his field-goal attempts and shot an impressive 46.2 percent (102 of 221) on three-pointers.

An 81.8 percent free-throw shooter, Hollenbeck also contributed 81 assists and 55 steals over 30 starts.

Hollenbeck scored a season-high 36 points in an 87-68 win at South Mountain Community College.

Fuquay also had solid numbers last season, averaging 15.5 points on better than 55 percent field-goal shooting and 74.5 percent on free throws.

He averaged 6.6 rebounds, adding 23 blocks, 35 steals and 30 assists.

Against North Dakota State College of Science, Fuquay posted a double-double of 27 points and 11 rebounds.

Guard Wilson Dubinsky of South Carolina State previously announced he was transferring to Marshall.

MU football coach Tony Gibson continues to build a post spring practice roster. A pair of the latest additions are well-known names to football fans across the Mountain State — former WVU running back Judah Price and a former Thundering Herd player who has returned in linebacker Jaydyn Johnson.

Price is an Independence High alumnus who won the Kennedy Award and MetroNews Football Player of the Year in 2022, distinctions for West Virginia’s top high school football player. He played running back and defensive back for the Patriots, helping lead the program to Class AA state championship on the gridiron in 2022. Price was also a state champion wrestler at Independence.

Price was an invited walk-on last season in Morgantown, but entered the transfer portal after the recent spring practice period. He has four years of eligibility remaining.

Johnson was recruited to Marshall in 2022, but decided to transfer after that season to Lindenwood University, a FCS program in St. Charles, Missouri after that season.

A former standout at Cabell Midland High School., Johnson didn’t play in 2023, before recording 30 tackles over 12 contests last fall.

Johnson has one year of eligibility remaining.
