Worker killed in worksite accident

PROCTOR, W.Va. — A Marshall County man is dead after a high pressure water line ruptured while he was working at a chemical plant.

According to Marshall County Sheriff Mike Dougherty, the victim was Steven Chambers, 44, of Cameron. He was on a ladder performing maintenance on a high-pressure water line at the Westlake Chemical Plant in Proctor. The sheriff said the high pressure line exploded and knocked him off the ladder 10 to 20 feet off the ground.

Chambers was taken to a Wetzel County hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries suffered in the fall.

Chambers was on the site working for Boilermakers Local Union #667. An investigation into the fatal incident, which happened Sunday around 6 p.m. is ongoing.
