MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A Martinsburg man could face more than 100 years in prison after being found guilty of attempted first degree murder and other charges stemming from a shooting on Race Street on Valentine’s Day 2024.
Berkeley County Prosecutor Joseph Kinser tells The Panhandle News Network a Berkeley County jury on Monday found Mitchell Fernandors, 43, of Martinsburg, guilty of charges including attempted first degree murder, nine counts of malicious wounding and two gun charges.
Fernandors now faces a maximum sentence of 120 years in prison when he is sentenced Aug. 15. He was last reportedly lodged at the Eastern Regional Jail awaiting sentencing.
The shooting occurred in the 400 block of West Race St., Martinsburg on Feb. 14, 2024 and was investigated by the Martinsburg Police Department.
Prosecuting Attorney Kinser has expressed his appreciation to Cpl. D.R. Condo, “whose immediate response and lifesaving efforts saved the victim’s life,” according to Kinser.
He went on express gratitude to “Sgt. J.D. Luciano, Sgt. D.L. English, and members of the Eastern Panhandle Drug and Violent Crime Task Force for their dedicated investigation of this matter,” as well as to the jury for ” carefully weighing the evidence and providing a verdict that achieves justice for the victim and the community.”
