NICHOLAS COUNTY, W.Va. — A man wanted in Indiana on attempted murder charges has been caught in West Virginia.

According to the U.S. Marshals Southern District of West Virginia, Marvin Starcher, 56, of Garrett, Indiana, was apprehended at around 6 p.m. Monday on WV Route 16 close to the Nicholas/Fayette County line.
Starcher was wanted in DeKalb County, Indiana, on several charges that included attempted murder for a May 24 incident where he allegedly kidnapped and stabbed a person described as a “trail witness” and left them on the side of the road in a rural part of the county. He was then believed to have stolen the victim’s vehicle and fled the area.
Starcher had also failed to appear for an early-May trial for separate charges of distribution of methamphetamine, and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
U.S. Marshals in Indiana learned that Starcher fled Indiana and was evading apprehension in southern West Virginia. Members of the U.S. Marshals Southern District of West Virginia’s CUFFED Task Force responded to an area where Starcher was believed to be and found him operating the victim’s stolen vehicle on Route 16.
Starcher was arrested and taken to Central Regional Jail. He’s waited extradition back to Indiana.
