HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Marshall’s men’s basketball program will have some high-level help on the bench in the upcoming 2025-26 season.
Former North Carolina State assistant coach Steve Snell has been brought on by Marshall as an assistant coach. This will be Snell’s second stint at Marshall, as he was an assistant to former MU head coach Greg White from 1996-2001.

Ahead of his second season as Herd head coach, Cornelius Jackson says getting Snell to join the Marshall staff is a major boost for the program.
“This is a full circle moment for me,” Jackson said. “To now have the opportunity to work alongside someone who helped shape me as both a player and a person is truly special. Coach Snell was a major influence in my development, and I’ve always admired his basketball mind, his integrity and the way he builds relationships. He will be an incredible asset to our program and our student-athletes.”
Snell has three decades of experience in college coaching and spent the last five years on the North Carolina State staff, working under head coach Kevin Keatts as an assistant coach and director of operations.
The Wolfpack reached the Final Four in 2024.
Before catching on with the Wolfpack, Snell spent the 2019-20 season as an assistant at Ohio after three seasons at Denver.
Snell was also as an associate head coach at Santa Clara for two seasons (2014-16), spent seven seasons at Air Force (2007-14) with the final two years as Associate head coach and two seasons (2005-07) as assistant coach at ULM.
Following his first tenure with Marshall, Snell was an assistant coach at Tulane from 2001-05.
