MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — As The Basketball Tournament returns to Charleston next month, a former head coach is back to lead the WVU alumni team Best Virginia. Jarrod West, who led Best Virginia in their initial TBT appearance in 2019, returns to lead the team in the annual summer tournament.

West, the veteran head coach of Notre Dame High School in Clarksburg, played in 110 games for the Mountaineers from 1994-1998. He averaged 10.6 points per game in his senior season and his buzzer-beating basket against Cincinnati in the second round of the NCAA Tournament propelled WVU into the Sweet 16.
West replaces University of Charleston head coach James Long as the Best Virginia frontman.
The eight-team West Virginia Regional of The Basketball Tournament will be played at the Charleston Coliseum and Convention Center July 18-22. Charleston last hosted the regional round in 2022 when Best Virginia advanced to the national quarterfinals.
Former WVU assistant Ron Everhart and Bridgeport High School graduate and Fairmont State assistant Donald Kummer will join West’s coaching staff. Greg Richardson remains the team’s general manager.
