CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Governor Patrick Morrisey has announced appointments to the WVU Board of Governors.

Morrisey named Oliver Luck and Jim Martin to the BOG Friday evening, and re-appointed Bray Cary.
Luck, the former Mountaineer standout quarterback, was appointed to serve on the board in 2008 by then-Governor Joe Manchin. Luck then served as the university’s athletic director from 2010-2014, helping usher the Mountaineers into the Big 12 Conference in 2012.
Since then, Luck has served as the NCAA’s executive vice president of regulatory affairs and the CEO and commissioner of the XFL.

Morrisey will bring Martin — the president and CEO of CityNet — on to the BOG as well. Morrisey, in a Friday release said, Martin “has long been a leading advocate for broadband expansion across West Virginia.”
Martin has served as a board member of the West Virginia Broadband Deployment Council, as well as the West Virginia State Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and the Harrison County Chamber of Commerce.

Cary will be re-appointed to the board not long after refusing to go into executive session for a BOG nominating committee meeting, stating that his legal counsel advised him not to take part in the executive session. Cary also made comments that the board selected new President Michael T. Benson to succeed President E. Gordon Gee during an executive session.
Cary has an extensive list of successes within the media world, as he created championship week for ESPN and sold his company, Creative Sports to ESPN. Cary also develops and leads the Sun Belt Conference Television Network.
Morrisey also made a few other appointments Friday, as he put Michael Kessinger on the Parole Board, Drema Hill on the Healthcare Authority, and Kishore Challa on the Board of Medicine.
Morrisey also hired Jack Fencl as a Policy Consultant in the Governor’s office.
