VERDUNVILLE, W.Va. — The students of Verdunville Elementary School in Logan County will have to get accustomed to a new atmosphere this fall.
In a Thursday evening meeting, Logan County Schools Superintendent George Aulenbacher recommended that Verdunville close down indefinitely because damage the building sustained after an April rockslide.
A recent evaluation showed that heavy rains from April 8 led to the rockslide, which closed the school through spring break.
The students at Verdunville will be moving to Omar Elementary School this year, though parents have the option to have their children go to East Logan Elementary or Justice Elementary as well.
The school has been open for close to 70 years and has never seen any additions. An evaluation after the rockslide showed that the building needed a lot of work to keep it open into the future.
