Bluefield State ready for new president’s inauguration

BLUEFIELD, W.Va — Wednesday is inauguration day at Bluefield State University as the school celebrates its 15th president, Dr. Darrin Martin.

Darrin Martin

Martin, a Bluefield native and third-generation graduate of Bluefield State, took on the president’s role in November after a unanimous vote by the university’s Board of Governors.

The inauguration ceremony, scheduled for 10 a.m. at Bluefield’s Granada Theater, will focus on Martin’s vision for the university’s future and take on the theme of “There is So Much More to Learn.”

Dr. Patrice Harris, a West Virginia native and the first African-American woman to serve as president of the American Medical Association, will give the keynote address.
