Coal miner killed in southern West Virginia

WHITESVILLE, W.Va. –A Logan County man has been killed in an accident today in a southern West Virginia coal mine.

The West Virginia Office of Miner’s Health, Safety, and Training confirms Eric Bartram, 41, of Chapmanville was killed on the job around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. He was working at the Marfork Processing Plant near Whitesville, W.Va. The mine is operated by Marfork Coal, a division of Alpha Metallurgical Resources.

“The entire Alpha organization is deeply saddened by this accident,” Alpha’s chief executive officer Andy Eidson said. “Our hearts are with Eric’s family and loved ones. We are heartbroken to learn of his loss.”

Bartram was a 14-year veteran mine worker and worked as an electrician.

An investigation by state and mine safety investigators is underway. No further details about how Bartram died were released.
