WASHINGTON D.C. — Congresswoman Carol Miller took a moment on Thursday to honor the late Justice Tim Armstead on the floor of the United States House of Representatives.
Armstead, who also served as West Virginia’s House Speaker at one point, died at the age of 60 in late August. He had been battling cancer.
Miller said Armstead stood up for the ones that needed a voice the most in West Virginia.
“Tim’s life was guided by his Christian faith and dedicated to our state and its people, especially children suffering from neglect and abuse,” Miller said. “He worked tirelessly to defend those children on the Court of Appeals and worked to retain and recruit attorneys to provide services for these children’s cases.”
“West Virginia is a better place thanks to the life of Tim Armstead and the lives that he touched will be missed from his positive influence,” she continued.
Armstead was elected to the House of Delegates in 1998, where he served as Minority Leader before becoming the House Speaker in 2015. Armstead was elected to the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia is 2018. He held that position until his death.
Miller says Armstead was a friend to her.
“I was proud to call him a dear friend and cherished the special time we spent together,” Miller said.
