Miller: “Don’t pay me, we’re in a shutdown”

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Rep. Carol Miller was home in Huntington as the federal government shutdown moved through its sixth day.

Miller (WV-1), by her choice, isn’t being paid her congressional salary.

“It’s just making the point, ‘Don’t pay me. We’re in a shutdown. I’m at home,'” Miller said Monday on MetroNews Midday.

Miller and some other members of the U.S. House are refusing their salaries. U.S. Senator Shelley Moore Capito has also taken that step.

Miller said it’s time for the Senate Democrats to pass a clean funding bill.

“They need to go ahead and pass the bill,” Miller said. “Let us do our job to continue funding what needs to be funded.”

Miller said it’s a process that needs to be played out. She said Republicans agreed to continuing resolution bills 13 times while Joe Biden was president.

“We are $37 trillion in debt and we are trying to be as responsible as possible,” Miller said.

There didn’t appear to be any major movement Monday in Washington. Republicans in the Senate continue to call for a clean funding bill while Democrats wanted Medicaid cuts restored and Obamacare subsidies guaranteed.
