Victim identified in Turnpike hit and run

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — State Police have identified the victim of a fatal hit and run on the West Virginia Turnpike.

He’s Jack Walter, 63, of Middlesex, North Carolina. According to troopers, Walter was outside of this vehicle pulled off to the side of the northbound lanes of I-77 just south of the Mahan exit last Friday. At approximately 11:50 a.m. he and his parked vehicle were struck by a passing tractor trailer. Investigators said the truck kept on going and Walter was killed instantly.

Evidence collected at the scene indicated the semi was a white and likely now had damage to the right front from the impact.

State Police continue their investigation and hope the public will be able to help locate the truck and identify the operator at the time of the incident.
