Benson ready to deliver first State of the University address

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University President Michael T. Benson will deliver his first State of the University address on Monday.

WVU President Michael T. Benson

Benson, who has been at the helm of the university since July, will be giving the address at 3 p.m. from the Fitzsimmons Event Hall at the WVU College of Law. The speech will come at the beginning part of the Faculty Senate meeting.

According to the university, Benson will be discussing his vision for WVU’s future.

In late August, Benson spoke about his strategic plan at the West Virginia Business Summit and released the university’s new mission statement. It reads, ““Bold futures start here. Where pride runs deep, success is earned, and lifechanging experiences prepare Mountaineers to lead in West Virginia and the world. Your future starts here. Let’s go!”

In the 12 weeks on the job, Benson has traveled dozens of West Virginia counties as part of his “Welcome Home” tour.
