CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The Judicial Vacancy Advisory Commission meets Monday to interview the applicants for the state Supreme Court seat left vacant by the passing of Justice Tim Armstead.

Armstead died Aug. 26 after a battle cancer. The JVAC HAS until Nov. 24 to interview the applicants and submit two to five names to Gov. Patrick Morrisey. The governor will then have 30 days to make an appointment.

Those who will have applied include:

Laura Faircloth
David Gilbert
Dan Greear
Eric Hudnall
E. Ryan Kennedy
Brenden Long
Elgine McArdle
R. Steven Redding
Robert Ryan
Martin Sheehan
Gerald Titus III
Zachary Viglianco

Armstead was elected to a 12-year term in 2020. The person chosen by Morrisey can choose to run to fill out the unexpired term.

The current justices of the Supreme Court have selected retired Justice John Hutchison to serve until the governor’s appointee can take office.
