CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A Charleston man is behind bars accused of posting on-line threats of violence toward several government officials including President Donald Trump.
State Police filed the charges against Michael Sigmon, 66, of Charleston this week for threatening terrorists acts.
Troopers were alerted August 11th via the Internet Crime Center about threatening language Sigmon is alleged to have made when he completed a volunteer admission form on-line for the West Virginia Mountain Party. The tip claimed Sigmon made threats in that form to kill local law enforcement as well as murder President Trump via beheading. Mountain Party officials immediately lodged their concern with the State Police and began to monitor Sigmon’s public on-line activity.
Troopers began an investigation and were notified the threats were coming from Sigmon’s Instagram account. Mountain Party officials say they were monitoring all correspondence from the account. On October 8th Sigmon messaged he would, “…murder Donald J. Trump whom if elected leader in ’28, I will execute on Day 1 on the South lawn. Governor Morrisey over an undetermined amount of currency.”
The criminal complaint indicated the investigating trooper in a conversation with Mountain Party officials received additional worries about Sigmon’s public posts on other social media. The trooper observed a post to Sigmon’s public Facebook page dated September 10th where he posted the same Mountain Party on-line application and on September 19th posted an additional threat which mentioned former Presidential Advisor Elon Musk.
“@elonmusk now you are a dead man I have had enough of you and your 1st amendment rights banning Once elected, I’m going to chop off your fu***ng head.”
