WILLIAMSON, W.Va. — A new trial date will be set in the case of a man accused of shooting and killing a West Virginia State Police officer.

Judge Joshua Butcher declared a mistrial in the case of Timothy Kennedy, of Matewan. Kennedy allegedly shot and killed Sgt. Corey Maynard in the Beech Creek area in June 2023.

Butcher granted the defendants’ motion due to possible juror misconduct Thursday. This comes after four days of jury selection.

The trial has been continued multiple times because defense tried to get the trial moved to McDowell County.

The trial was slated to begin next Monday. A new date has not been set.
