CHARLESTON, W.Va. — After months of failed negotiations, the Kanawha County Emergency Ambulance Authority and Highmark Blue Cross/BlueShield have reached a contract agreement on Highmark’s reimbursements for ambulance services.
About a month ago, KCEAA said it would be cancelling its contract with Highmark after negotiations failed. If a new deal wouldn’t have been reached, those covered by Highmark BCBS would have been considered uninsured.
“We’re glad that we could work out this agreement. We look forward to continuing our long-term relationship with Highmark,” KCEAA executive director Monica Mason said in a statement.
The previous contract was set to expire on January 1, 2026.
