Pastor confirmed as victim of fatal accident in Hurricane

HURRICANE, W.Va. — Officials now confirm a man killed in Putnam County while working on his vehicle was a local pastor.

Sam Pierson Jr., 44, of Hurricane died Thursday evening while working on his pickup truck. Hurricane Mayor Scott Edwards confirmed Pierson was crushed when his truck collapsed on him. First responders were on scene within two minutes, but it was too late.

Pierson was the pastor of Grace Church in South Charleston.

The West Virginia South District of the Church of the Nazarene made the announcement of his death on social media.

“It is with heavy hearts that we share the tragic news that Pastor Sam Pierson passed away this evening as the result of an at-home accident. Pastor Sam faithfully served as the Lead Pastor of South Charleston Grace Church, and his sudden passing has deeply shaken all who knew and loved him.”

Pierson leaves behind a wife and two teenage daughters.
