WAYNE, W.Va. –Town of Wayne officials modified the ‘do not consumer’ order nearly three weeks after an oil spill from a substation leaked into a nearby creek and affected the community’s water supply.
The notice from the town was issued Thursday and changed the order to a ‘do not drink’. This comes after recent testing results showed no signs of harmful contaminants in the town’s drinking water.
The order means that residents can use the water to shower, do laundry, and wash dishes, etc, however they are advised to not drink or cook with it.
It also led residents know they can flush the lines in their home or business to ensure they are receiving the treated water.
Tips you can use to flush the water lines:
-Household plumbing: run hot and cold water at each faucet for at least five minutes or until no unusual odor is present
– Refrigerator water line: flush for at least five minutes or until no odor is present
– Ice makers: dispose of and make at least three batches of ice if you use an automatic ice maker
The town also encourages residents to replace all household water filters.
