FAYETTE COUNTY, W.Va. –An inmate at Mount Olive Correctional Complex in Fayette County was sentenced Tuesday to another life sentence for the murder of an inmate last year.

Paul D. Thompson, 56, plead guilty to the felony offense of first-degree murder and was sentenced during the same hearing by Chief Circuit Judge Thomas Fast to serve life in prison.
According to a release from the Fayette County prosecutor’s office, on March 6, 2025, Thompson fatally assaulted the victim, who was another inmate at the complex, after a disagreement broke out between the two. Upon investigation Thompson confessed to attacking his fellow inmate and told authorities the attack was in response to the victim making sexual advances toward him. The victim suffered severe head injuries, including skull fractures.
Thompson, at the time of the attack, was already serving a life sentence in relation to convictions of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit robbery from Marion County. The sentence in Fayette County will run consecutively to the sentences in Marion County.
Judge Fast also did not grant mercy, meaning Thompson will never be eligible for parole.
