‘Shooters list’ causes widespread panic at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School

BUCKHANNON, W.Va. — An Upshur County student is being held in a juvenilia detention facility after allegedly putting the names of 34 sixth grade students at Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School on a “shooters list.”

The juvenile girl was taken into custody by Upshur County sheriff’s deputies Friday morning and the list was AirDropped to the devices and phones of some students waiting in the school gym for classes to start.

The school principal called the Upshur County Schools chief of security and the sheriff’s department was contacted.

The girl has been charged with making terroristic threats, a felony charge, according to Upshur County Sheriff Mike Coffman.

Coffman also said in a news release that his deputies obtained a confession from the student.

There were no injuries reported but when word started to spread to parents about what happened several came to the school to pick up their kids.

Coffman says the incident caused widespread panic.
