First Energy plans to submit base rate increase request

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — FirstEnergy, Mon Power and Potomac Edison have notified the Public Service Commission PSC they plan to file a new base-rate case within 30 days.

No details about the increase were included in the initial notice. The rates will be negotiated and the details are expected to be included in the full filing.

The last rate increase requested was in May 2023 when the utilities requested 15 percent rate increase. The actual rate approved following the negotiations was about 8 percent or $9.94 per month.

FirstEnergy has also announced plans for 1,200 MW gas-fired power plant.
