Lewis County DUI suspect nearly hits police cruiser

WESTON, W.Va.  — A Weston man has been charged with aggravated DUI after an incident with a Lewis County Sheriff’s Department deputy Monday.

Ethan Smith, 22, was reportedly swerving on I-79 southbound when deputies attempted to pull him over. Smith drove through a traffic signal at I-79 northbound ramp of Route 19 and stopped in the center of the ramp.

Smith then put the car in reverse and almost hit the deputy’s car.

When deputies got Smith out of the car he failed two field sobriety tests and reportedly provided a breath test that showed a .187 BAC, more than twice the legal limit in West Virginia.

Smith was arrested for aggravated DUI and is free on a $5,000 bond.
