Monongalia County middle school placed on ‘Code Yellow’ as a precaution Friday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — A “Code Yellow” was issued at the Mountaineer Middle School Friday morning as a precaution.

Sheriff Todd Forbes said a turkey hunter returning home carrying a shotgun raised concerns with school officials at 7:45 a.m.

“It was completely harmless, but I don’t think it’s the best idea in the world to carry a shotgun around the Mileground,” Sheriff Todd Forbes said. “It was completely innocent.”

Forbes said, “If you see something, say something.” He said let police respond to investigate when things don’t look right quite right instead of getting involved.

“The City of Morgantown responded to the call as well along with a couple of our deputies,” Forbes said. “Within a couple minutes we were able to determine there was no threat to the community.”

No arrests were made and no injuries were reported.
