Parkersburg police say 2 found dead after gunfire exchange

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. — Two people are dead after a standoff that happened in Parkersburg Saturday night.

According to Parkersburg police, officers were called to investigate an unknown problem at an apartment in the 3400 block of 25th Street at just before 10 p.m.

When officers arrived someone began shooting at them from inside the apartment. Wood County deputies along with the county’s armored vehicle were also sent to the scene.

Parkersburg police said the exchange of gunfire continued until at some point the person inside died of a gunshot wound.

When police entered the apartment they found a second person dead who they believe died before they arrived on the scene.

No names have been released. No police officers were injured.

State police have taken over the investigation. A Parkersburg police officer and Wood County deputy have been placed on administrative leave as is protocol.
