Morrisey orders flags at half-staff for Memorial Day

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Gov. Patrick Morrisey issued a proclamation Friday afternoon ordering flags at all state facilities to be flown at half-staff Monday, in observance of Memorial Day.

A release from Morrisey encouraged all West Virginians to honor the fallen, reflect on the profound cost of our freedoms, and expressing gratitude to military families.

“Our nation’s fallen heroes answered the call to defend our freedom, making the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live in peace and liberty,” Morrisey said. “We can never fully repay the debt we owe to the Americans who laid down their lives defending this country and the cause of freedom. Memorial Day stands a solemn reminder that every liberty we enjoy was secured by the courage and sacrifice of men and women willing to give everything for the United States.”

“As we gather with family and friends, we should pause to honor our fallen heroes, pray for the loved ones they left behind, and recommit ourselves to being worthy of their sacrifice. West Virginia will always remember their valor and service to this great nation.” Morrisey continued.
