Boy Scout group rescued in Capon Bridge after river trip goes awry

CAPON BRIDGE, W.Va. — A group of boy scouts were rescued Saturday in Hampshire County after they were trapped by river floodwaters.

The group of 28 boys, from Fairfax, Virginia, were on a Cacapon River trip when water speed intensified. The boys ended up stranded on the wrong side of the river.

A Hampshire County First Alert went out mid-afternoon Saturday that a water rescue was necessary near Lion Lane.

The scouts were trapped for about 45 minutes.

All of the boys were rescued. According to a Hampshire County First Alert, first responders brought the scouts out of the water with an operation that included a tow line.

The boys were given hot cocoa and pizza at a nearby cabin before heading back home.
