MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A suspect in a Berkeley County carjacking has been arrested in neighboring Maryland.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office identified the suspect as Jordan Larine Redfern, 30, of Martinsburg.
According to investigators, Redfern stole a family’s car at gunpoint from a Berkeley County gas station on Sunday. The driver was putting air in the tire when he said he was approached by Redfern who took his car at gunpoint. The vehicle was later abandoned in Maryland.
Redfern than reportedly carjacked another vehicle at gunpoint. Police in Maryland began a pursuit which they backed off from out of concern for public safety.
Redfern has since been arrested by police following a bank robbery in Maryland. He’s a suspect in all three separate crimes.
Berkeley County Sheriff Rob Blair was a guest on Monday’s Panhandle Live. He said the family did the right thing. “In situations like that, you, you want to protect your family,” he said, describing the victims as a male, a female, and a young child. “There were some threats made. They did the right thing. They’re safe. That one was injured to my understanding.”
