CHARLESTON, W.Va. –Governor Patrick Morrisey has appointed William “Bill” D’Aiuto as Chief Operating Officer of the West Virginia Department of Human Services.
Morrisey made the announcement Friday evening. According to a news release from Morrisey, D’Aiuto takes on the new position that aims to strengthen operational oversight and improve the delivery of services to West Virginians.
“West Virginia taxpayers deserve a government that is efficient, accountable, and focused on results,” Morrisey said. “Bill D’Aiuto brings more than three decades of experience managing large and complex human services systems. His proven record of improving operations, reducing administrative burdens, and supporting frontline workers makes him the right person to help support the Department of Human Services continue its efforts to improve performance across its program.”
D’Aiuto’s main role will be ensuring taxpayer dollars are managed responsibly by identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, streamline operations, reduce administrative burdens, and increase staff capacity through technology, policy, and process improvements.
He will monitor a broad range of programs including Child welfare, Medicaid, SNAP, economic assistance, and behavioral health services.
D’Aiuto brings more than 30 years of public service experience to West Virginia. He most recently served as Agency Director for the City of Petersburg Department of Social Services in Virginia. Before that role, he served in senior leadership roles with the Virginia Department of Social Services, the Texas Health and Human Services Commission, and the Florida Department of Children and Families.
“West Virginia has an extraordinary opportunity to build on the important reforms already underway across the Department of Human Services,” D’Aiuto said. “I look forward to working alongside department leadership and frontline staff to strengthen operations, improve outcomes for people that we serve, and ensure taxpayer resources are being used as effectively as possible.”
He holds a Master of Public Administration and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Central Florida.
D’Aiuto will step into the role June 8.
