MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Interstate 79 south is closed near the Monongalia-Marion county line following a Friday morning crash.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department confirmed that the accident occurred near mile marker 143, and traffic is being detoured off the Goshen Road exit at mile marker 146. According to West Virginia 511, the accident was reported at around 10:50 a.m. with four vehicles involved.
According to deputies, the accident involved two commercial car haulers and two passenger vehicles, with two vehicles being transported by the haulers to become dislodged and block the roadway.
Monongalia County EMS transported one person to a Morgantown hospital with minor injuries. No other injuries have been reported at this time.
The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department is handling the scene and is being assisted by the West Virginia State Police, the Division of Highways (DOH), Monongalia County EMS, the Clinton District Volunteer Fire Department, the Halleck Road Volunteer Fire Department, and the Winfield Volunteer Fire Department.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Drivers are advised to use caution and seek alternate routes if possible.
