Injured Oak Hill police officer has long road to recovery

OAK HILL, W.Va. — A veteran member of the Oak Hill Police Department is in stable condition, but has a long road to recovery from an accident.

Lt. James Pack of the Oak Hill Police was injured as he headed home from work last Thursday. He was travelling south on U.S. Route 19 when two utility trailers being pulled behind a roll-back truck became disconnected from the truck, crossed the median, and his Pack’s vehicle head on.

Pack was flow by HealthNet to CAMC in Charleston and has been in the hospital’s ICU ever since.

According to Oak Hill Police Chief Mike Whisman, he suffered numerous broken bones, lacerations, cuts and a collapsed lung. However, the Whisman said he is stable and starting to show signs of improvement. It is anticipated he’ll be moved from ICU to a step down unit very soon.

West Virginia State Police are handling the investigation. The towing company who was pulling the trailers had two more on the back of the roll back being hauled. They were cited by troopers as well as the state Department of Transportation.

An investigation into the crash continues. Pack has been a member of the Oak Hill Police Department for the past 14 years.
