SOUTH CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The West Virginia Music Hall of Fame is celebrating the Mountain State’s sonic history this Sunday with the 11th edition of its Garden Party at the South Charleston Farmer’s Market from 3-6 p.m.
The show will see the introduction of the hall’s 2027 class of inductees, as well as live performances from some of West Virginia’s brightest stars. Headlining the show is a special tribute to a musical legend inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame.
“The big news is Kori Withers, Bill Withers’ daughter, is coming to town to represent the Withers family and to do a musical tribute to her dad,” West Virginia Music Hall of Fame director Michael Lipton said on 580 Live with Dave Allen.
In addition to Kori Withers, four West Virginia Music Hall of Famer inductees will perform on Sunday. Lipton is excited to bring some of the state’s biggest musical names to South Charleston.
“From beginning to end, there’s going to be music, and there’s going to be four current inductees that are going to perform a little: Larry Groce, Bob Thompson, Ann Magnuson, and John Ellison,” he said.
The City of South Charleston is thrilled to bring the Garden Party to the Farmer’s Market and add another big event to the calendar. South Charleston Recreation Director Shawn Zuniga hopes to see a big crowd on Sunday.
“We’re extremely excited to be able to partner with them to bring this great event here. It’s the first of its kind that we’ve had at the market, so we’re very excited about that, and we’re excited for everyone to come out and have a great time,” he said.
Beyond the music, food trucks, drink vendors, and inflatables will be on hand throughout the afternoon. Lipton looks forward to bringing this lineup together and potentially inspiring some future hall of famers along the way.
“It’s some old and new, and by the nature of what we do, we induct older people, but we also try and encourage and support and utilize the next generation,” he said.
A $20 donation is suggested upon admission.
