HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — Several witnesses took the stand in Cabell County Circuit Court Tuesday in the trial of a man accused of murdering his infant daughter.
Shannon Overstreet, 53, of Huntington, was indicted three years ago on three charges: death of a child by parent, guardian or custodian or other persons by child abuse, murder, and concealment of a human body. The indictment came seven months after his infant daughter went missing.
Police allege Overstreet killed his three-month-old daughter, Angel, and got rid of the body on his Kentucky farm. Prosecutors said he bought a barrel, a gas can, and firewood from a Rural King, which is shown on surveillance video, prior to disposing of the body.
Former FBI forensic anthropologist Dr. Angi Christensen testified in court that she had examined bones from the farm. She said the bones had belonged to an infant.
Retired Huntington Police forensic investigator Steven Compton testified that he had analyzed a bloodstained blanket found at the farm.
According to investigators, there is little evidence tying Overstreet to his daughter’s murder.
The trial resumes Wednesday morning.
