CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The state Public Service Commission has scheduled a public comment session for a proposed gas-fired power plant in Monongalia County and three solar arrays.
The hearing is scheduled for July 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the PSC hearing room at 201 Brooks St. in Charleston.
The combined cycle gas plant at the Fort Martin Power Station will produce 1,200 megawatts of electricity and cost about $2.48 billion to construct. The solar arrays would be placed in Valley Point near Albright, Preston County; adjacent to the town of Davis, Tucker County; and near Weirton at an estimated cost of $182 million.
The additional generation capacity will help meet the governor’s plan to add 50 megawatts of power generation by the year 2050 and meet the more immediate need of increased electrical demand.
The company has proposed an initial surcharge to customers of .9 percent or $1.18 per month to support the construction costs.
Those who plan to address the PSC must register for the event by 4 p.m. on July 10. Registration is available here for the Microsoft Teams link. .
