MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Since the end of the 2025 football season, University High School rising senior lineman Luke Braham has added nearly 50 pounds to his frame. A growth spurt led to a sudden surge in Division I scholarship offers this spring for Braham and a verbal commitment to Virginia Tech followed on May 30.
Braham collected eleven offers in the months of April and May, including power conference opportunities from Northwestern, Rutgers, Wake Forest and West Virginia.

Former WVU offensive line Coach Matt Moore is entering his second season leading the line for the Hokies. He was retained by new head coach James Franklin in the offseason.
“I have always liked Coach Moore. Coach Moore has been a big part of it since he was at WVU. Ever since I walked on campus there, it has really been my dream school. They finally came back in the picture for me. I just fell in love with it,” Braham said.
“When my brother [Noah] played up there [WVU] a few years back, my dad and I went up there watching practices. He’s a good dude. We had good conversations and from there it just kind of clicked.”
“With Virginia Tech, he is just happy to be able to go down there,” said University head coach Eric Snyder. “He’s got a nice relationship with the offensive line coach from his time when he was up here at WVU. He was able to extend that and get to know that guy pretty well. He is just happy to be able to go down there, be able to do his thing, and show a good response for University High School.”

Luke’s brother Noah played three seasons at WVU before transferring to Bryant University in the offseason. Luke’s father, Rich, earned All-America honors at West Virginia. He made 37 starts for the Mountaineers at left tackle from 1990-93. Braham went on to make 142 starts in a decorated 13-year career with the Cincinnati Bengals. Rich now serves as an assistant coach for the Hawks.
Luke finished the 2025 season weighing in at 220 pounds. He bulked up throughout the offseason and college coaches quickly took notice.
“Last season, being at 220 and now I am up to 270, offers started coming in fast,” Braham said.
“I was just putting time in the weight room and eating a good diet. It has really shown.”
Braham is scheduled to graduate from University High School early and he will enroll at Virginia Tech in time for the spring semester in 2027.
“It is awesome. I am just so excited to get there,” Braham said.
