Reedsville man charged in Preston County counterfeit cash investigation

KINGWOOD, W.Va. — A Preston County man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly used a movie prop to buy items at a Terra Alta convenience store.

Larry Jones

Larry Ray Jones, 56, of Reedsville, is accused of using a $20 with a corner torn away and marked with “Movie Prop Use Only” in several locations.

Deputies from the Preston County Sheriff’s Department met with the store manager and used store surveillance to confirm Jones tendered the bill to the clerk.

Jones reportedly used the fake bill to purchase alcohol, a soda and a candy bar.

The clerk told police Jones used change from the transaction to buy two scratch-off lottery tickets before leaving.

A store employee confronted Jones at a later date and asked him to pay for the items. When Jones learned he would be banned from the business for life, he fled without paying.

Jones has been charged with counterfeiting and is being held on a $5,000 bail in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail.
